Hello everyone. In my inaugural post on The Movie Club, I am going to review Lucy, which I saw this afternoon.
The BBC just released this pretty awesome trailer for the upcoming Winter Olympic 2014. And they hired Tywin Lannister's Himself, Charles Dance, to do the haunting, menacing voice of Nature itself. It's great - but it makes you wish the Olympics were actually hosted in Westeros.
So you know, I hate people who text during a movie. Hate, hate, hate, hate, hate them. But I don't, you know, shoot them in the chest. Apparently, retired Florida police officers do:
Now that Michael Douglas is Hank Pym, can we PLEASE get a cameo of Kirk DOuglas alongside Stan Lee? He can be Stan Lee's chess partner, or maybe they make bets that ruin people life for a dollar, or something.
Well, for a show io9 has been hyping for weeks, it really wasn't the kind of can't-miss thrill I was expecting. It wasn't bad - the mystery is intrguing, the set-up is new and different, and there are some character I like (Doreen the blonde, and the Army guy) But I have three big problems:
Ok, so I'm following the Golden Globes online (not actually watching it cause the powers that be won't let me)
So yesterday I was finally able to see American Hustle, in preparation for the Golden Globes tomorrow which nominated that movie a bunch of times. No spoilers here that you can't get from the synopsis or trailer, but I do spoil the soundtrack a bit at the end.
I discovered this of Youtube today. Anybody has seen it before? It's a edited, best-off montage of a "science movie" called Creation Adventure Science Team that reveals the truth about dinosaurs - they were created on Day 6, just like man, aren't billions of years old, and actually, still live today, but they are…
So, it's somewhat old news, but since it was released on Christmas Eve, I missed it, and I suppose some might have too. Frank MIller is going to do a vriant cover for an upcoming issue of Detective Comics and..OH MY GOD look at this monstrosity!
This is spoiler corner, so be warned! Also, I am a fan of the show, so be warned about that too!
So, every year in Quebec we have a show on December 31 at 11pm called "Bye-Bye (year that is ending)" This show is a humorous retrospective of the year, with parodies of all the memorable event of the past year. And that means, of course, some song parody.
So I am at my mom for the holidays, and she has that channels that specializes in old movies. And sometimes they have weird things. Like this very loose Roger Zelazny adaption from 1977 that I just watched:
This is something that happened to me yesterday - I went to a show of a psycho-billy band. Not my usual style at all, but I had listened to this band at work called The Creepshow and I just fell in love with it on the stop. So when they came to that small bar in town, I went for sure!
And I liked it. But that's not important. What is important - my god was that Commander Thread an intimidating, scary psycho. Get this guy into the new Star Wars movie stat - he would be an awesome villain commander.
Which put my entire Ph.D. in jeopardy - without the possibility of getting it, I might very well not even be accepted in the program I had chosen and did the application for. Right now, that means that next week, I might be out in the curb with a M.A. in Literature and no money.
This holiday commercial from Mattel that I got on Youtube today:
So I am back from seeing Frozen and, well, I'm kind of two minds about it. I liked a lot of the individuals elements in it - I liked the twists they did on "love at first sight" and "true love kiss" trope, I liked the villain's reveal, I like how the snow was animated, I liked the relationships between the two…
This year Black Friday 5 deaths and 81 injured. WHY? It's just shopping people! It's not worth dying for! Really not!
Hey you, do you think Matthew McConaughey is hot? Well prepare to lose your (lady)boner, cause here is McConaughey as a mustachioed, homophobic cowboy with Aids. Yeah!
